How the Pitman (rotating 2-2-3) pattern works
This page uses the rotating form of the Pitman schedule: the 2-2-3 pattern on day shifts for two weeks, then the same pattern on nights for two weeks, a 28-day cycle. Four crews start seven days apart. Some employers use "Pitman" for the fixed 2-2-3 pattern instead; if you never switch to nights, use the Panama (2-2-3) page.
Cycle for crew A: DDOODDDOODDOOONNOONNNOONNOOO (D = day, N = night, F = 24-hour shift, O = off).
